Our Approach
How Carbon Offset Works
mycarbondebt.com work with people to reduce climate change. Greenhouse gases spread throughout the atmosphere. So releasing pollution anywhere will increase CO2 levels everywhere. And clearing pollution anywhere will slow net emissions growth everywhere.

mycarbondebt.com follows a simple philosophy in our choice of projects: we support projects that provide strong social and environmental benefits to communities in developing countries, as well as global climate benefits.
This isn’t just about carbon dioxide. When we talk about offsetting carbon, we actually refer to six key pollutants:
- carbon dioxide
- methane
- nitrous oxide
- hydrofluorocarbons
- perfluorocarbons
- sulphur hexafluoride
To keep things simple, scientists talk about these gases in terms of tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2eq), so that we can compare apples with apples. So, you’re really supporting the cleansing of all six main greenhouse gases, not just carbon dioxide.
mycarbondebt.com works in collaboration with Carbon Clear to support projects that provide strong social and environmental benefits in developing countries, while helping the global climate.
Proposed industry regulation
Recently, the Government made an announcement regarding regulation of the carbon offset market. mycarbondebt.com support the aims of the code to increase customer confidence and ensure that those operating within the industry show integrity and transparency in how their projects are measured.
The announcement signals the beginning of the consultation process and we are pleased to support that process.
Currently the proposed standard doesn't cover the needs of voluntary offset customers or the industry, but we will continue to work together to find a solution. We support industry regulation that allows room for smaller-scale projects which meet our criteria of providing societal benefits to local communities as well as true environmental benefits.
We encourage everyone to reduce your emissions wherever possible, and offset what remains, enabling you to do something practical to reduce climate change.
